Kabul - Das Attentat ereignete sich in Dschalalabad, der Hauptstadt der Provinz Nangarhar, an der Grenze zu Afghanistan. Insgesamt fünf Fahrzeuge, darunter ein gepanzertes Patrouillenfahrzeug der NATO-Soldaten vom Typ Humvee wurden zum Teil schwer beschädigt. Zu dem Anschlag bekannten sich die Taliban.

Zur Nationalität der Soldaten machte die Isaf zunächst keine Angaben. Bei den meisten in der Provinz Nangarhar eingesetzten Isaf-Soldaten handelt es sich jedoch um Militärs aus den USA. Nach Angaben des Innenministeriums in Kabul wurden bei dem Anschlag außerdem fünf afghanische Zivilisten verletzt. Seit Jahresbeginn sind in Afghanistan 67 ausländische Soldaten getötet worden.

TUCSON, Ariz. -  A spokeswoman for the Phoenix Mars Lander mission says a hacker took over the mission’s public Web site during the night and changed its lead news story.

Spokeswoman Sara Hammond says a mission update posted Friday was replaced with a hacker’s signature and a link redirecting visitors to an overseas Web site.

Hammond says the site hosted by the University of Arizona has been taken off line while computer experts work to correct the problem.

One soldier dead, six wounded in Afghan suicide blast

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, May 31 (Reuters)

A suicide car bomber killed one foreign soldier and wounded six other people, including three civilians, in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar Saturday, the provincial governor said. The suicide car bomber rammed his car into a moving military convoy in the city of Jalalabad before detonating explosives, Gol Agha Shirzai, governor of Nangarhar province, said. One coalition soldier was killed and three wounded, he said. Three civilians were also wounded in the attack.

Das zentrale Motiv der Klage ist jedoch ein ganz anderes: Durch die Strafanzeige werden die Gewerkschafter zu Prozessbeteiligten - und erhalten so Einsicht in alle Akten. “Wir wollen zur Aufklärung der Affäre beitragen und gleichzeitig die Reputation des Unternehmens schützen”, sagte dazu Vize-Ver.di-Aufsichtsratschef Lothar Schröder. Da man eventuell selbst betroffen sei, habe man ein großes Interesse an den Details, die noch herauskommen könnten und die man auf diesem Wege vielleicht schneller erfahre. Dankbar sei er in diesem Zusammenhang, dass man den ehemaligen FDP-Innenminister Gerhart Baum und die ehemalige SPD-Justizministerin Herta Däubler-Gmelin als Rechtsbeistand habe gewinnen können, fügte Schröder hinzu.

CARLSBAD, California (Reuters) - Yahoo Inc Chief Executive Jerry Yang said on Wednesday a potential deal with Microsoft has tremendous power, but the software giant appears no longer  interested in a full merger.

In his most public comments to date about his thinking on the four-month-old, on-again, off-again Microsoft merger saga, Yang signaled his company remained open to a potential deal, but said Microsoft had ruled out a merger for now.

Earlier this month, Microsoft walked away from a proposal to acquire Yahoo for $47.5 billion, or $33 per share, after Yahoo rebuffed its offer, saying it would only settle for $37 a share. “We did not walk away from that proposal. Microsoft did,” Yang said during an on-stage interview at the D: All Things Digital conference taking place near San Diego on Wednesday. He said he had felt a combination with Microsoft would have had a “tremendous amount of power.”

In mid-May the two companies said they had begun discussions on an unspecified deal that is short of a merger.

“Microsoft is no longer interested in buying the company, and we are talking about other things. We definitely have to understand what they’re proposing…they clearly have an interest in Yahoo, and we need to understand more,” Yang said.

Last week, a source familiar with the latest round of discussions said Microsoft has proposed buying Yahoo’s search business and taking a minority stake in the Web pioneer, but has stopped stopping short of reinitiating full merger negotiations.

As part of such a deal, Yahoo would sell its Asian assets including significant minority stakes in Yahoo Japan and China’s Alibaba Group, while Microsoft would buy a chunk of what remains of the company, the source said.

In an on-stage interview at the “D” conference on Tuesday, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer suggested discussions had broken down largely over price. “It became clear there was a difference between the bid and ask,” he said, using stock trader terms.  Continued…

AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 kommt im August

Wie unsere Quelle Hardtecs4u.com berichtet, kommt die AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 bestehend aus zwei RV770XT-Grafikchips bereits im August. Zwar ist bisher noch kein genaues Datum bekannt, doch dürfte dies möglicherweise auch daran liegen, dass AMD selbst noch mit der Treiber-Entwicklung beschäftigt ist. Erste Hardware dürfte den Gerüchten zufolge bereits im Juni vom Band laufen, sodass möglicherweise entsprechende Modelle auch auf der Computex schon zu sehen sein werden. Die Modelle HD 4870 und HD 4850 stehen bereits für Mitte Juni auf dem Plan und werden fast zeitgleich mit NVIDIAs GeForce GTX 280 erwartet.

Middle June is the launch date and Nvidia can play with the date moving it from 18th to 17th or similar but it looks that Nvidia will launch both GT200 in week 25 2008.

Sources have confirmed that they are in preparation to launch these boards at that time. As Nvidia set quite high standards the boards are suppose to be available at launch, and Nvidia has to ship in volume at the launch date.

The biggest issue is the price as around $600 might be too high but at the same time GT200 / D10U-30 the board that is known as Geforce GTX 280 will definitely be faster than dual chip Geforce 9800 GX2 that sells for minimum of $500. 

ATI’s Radeon 4870 and 4850 will both end up slower but they will also cost significantly less. The 4870 should cost $229 , slower than any GT200, but for half of the price.

Google Earth als Browser-Plugin 

Google hat eine Version seines virtuellen Globus Google Earth bereitgestellt, die im Browser läuft. Mit dem Google Earth Plugin zielt Google auf Entwickler, denen es eine Möglichkeit bereitstellt, ihre Webseiten mit 3D-Weltansichten auszustatten. Es bildet nicht den gesamten Funktionsumfang der Desktopapplikation ab. So funktionieren zwar gängige Tastatur- und Mausbefehle, etwa zum zoomen; die Funktionsleisten aber fehlen. Derzeit funktioniert das Google Earth Plugin nur unter Windows mit dem Internet Explorer in den Versionen 6 und 7 sowie mit Firefox 2.
 

Das Plugin lässt sich mit JavaScript steuern; auf der Plugin-Homepage stellt Google eine Reihe von Programmbeispielen vor. Nutzer der Google-Maps-API können das Plugin mit nur einer Zeile JavaScript einbinden. Google verspricht, dass “für alle gängigen Nutzungen” der Maps-API sämtlicher Code für die zweidimensionale Maps-Variante auch mit der 3D-Variante funktioniert. (jo/c’t)
