Auf seiner Pariser Hausmesse stellt Blizzard das lange erwartete Diablo 3 vor 

Wie auf einer heutigen Pressekonferenz von Blizzard bekannt gegeben wurde, wird Diablo 3 definitiv erscheinen. Die Blizzard-Webseite zeigt auch ein brandneues Diablo 3-Logo mit den üblichen Flash-Animationen. Laut Jay Wilson (Lead Designer) erscheint Diablo 3 für PC und Mac, eine Konsolenversion ist nicht vorgesehen. Es basiert auf einer neuen, von Blizzard selbst programmierten Grafikengine. Das Team arbeitet seit rund vier Jahren an dem Titel, derzeit mit rund 55 Entwicklern. Einen angepeilten Veröffentlichungstermin nannte Wilson nicht - abgesehen von einem “When its done”.

Die Handlung spielt rund 20 Jahre nach dem Ende von Lord of Destruction. Die Bewohner der Welt Sanktuario, und natürlich besonders die Bürger von Tristram, erinnern sich kaum noch an die Geschehnisse von damals - dabei hätte doch eigentlich eine groß angelegte Invasion des Bösen stattfinden müssen. Warum das nicht so war, und welches Unheil stattdessen droht, findet der Spieler erst im Verlauf von Diablo 3 heraus. Die Story soll laut Wilson eine wesentlich wichtigere Rolle spielen, und wird auch mit Zwischensequenzen in der Grafikengine erzählt - in denen einige alte Bekannte wieder auftauchen, beispielsweise Deckard Cain.

In einer offiziellen Pressemitteilung schreibt Blizzard, dass Diablo 3 fünf Heldenklassen enthalten wird. Derzeit ist der Witch Doctor angekündigt, sowie der aus dem Vorgänger bekannte, um weitere Kampffähigkeiten erweiterte Barbar. Jede Klasse gibt es künftig in einer weiblichen und einer männlichen Variante, was allerdings keine spielerischen Auswirkungen hat. Zumindest einige der besseren Rüstungen bekommen außerdem ein leicht unterschiedliches Aussehen je nach Klasse.

Einen Tag vor dem EM-Endspiel zwischen Deutschland und Spanien tagten die Präsidenten und Generalsekretäre der 53 der UEFA angeschlossenen Verbände in Wien. Nach dieser Sitzung spricht alles dafür, dass das Endturnier der Europameisterschaft künftig mit 24 Mannschaften ausgetragen wird. Die endgültige Entscheidung über eine Erweiterung fällt am 25. und 26. September, wenn sich das Exekutivkomitee der UEFA in Bordeaux trifft.

British soldier killed in Afghanistan LONDON, June 28 (AFP): A British soldier died and two others were injured when their patrol vehicle rolled over in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said Saturday. The accident, which the MoD said “was not combat-related”, happened in central Helmand province, late Friday.

Israeli forces killed a 17-year old Palestinian boy during a raid on Beit Umar village near the West Bank city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Friday. An Israeli army spokesman said troops fired at a group of militants who hurled firebombs at them, hitting one.

UN records 7 incidents of IDF soldiers attempting to drive Palestinian farmers away from border fence by shooting at them. Only one offence marked against Palestinians for firing on Sderot; report does not include most recent rocket fire.

Since it went into effect last week, at least eight violations of the new ceasefire agreement with Hamas and the Palestinian factions have been recorded, a UN source told Ynet on Thursday. According to the source, seven violations were committed by the IDF, while the Palestinians are responsible for just one.

However the UN report does not include the Qassam fire launched towards the Negev during the day. “It is important that both sides honor the ceasefire, in order for it to be the first constructive step towards a wider and more extensive peace process between the sides,” the source said.

Most of the offences committed by the IDF include shots fired by soldiers at Palestinian farmers attempting to reach their land near the border security fence. According to the UN, on June 20 an IDF patrol shot at Palestinian farmers near the fence east of Rafah. The soldiers fired for ten minutes in order to drive the farmers away, but no injuries were reported

During the evening of the same day a similar incident was recorded, in which IDF forces shot at Palestinian farmers near the Maghazi refugee camp. Soldiers reportedly fired for five minutes, and no injuries were reported. An hour later soldiers fired towards fisherman near the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya in an attempt to drive them away.

Early on June 21 Navy forces opened fire in the same area, and later the same morning forces fired towards Palestinians near the Maghazi refugee camp. No injuries were reported in either case.

70-year old Jamil al-Gahoul was injured from IDF fire two days later, when an army patrol opened fire on a group of Palestinians reportedly gathering wood near Beit Lahiya at 7 am.

Only one Palestinian offence

The first violation committed by the Palestinians was recorded a day later, on June 24, when Islamic Jihad fired three rockets at Sderot from the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun.

On Wednesday morning IDF forces opened fire towards Palestinian farmers near the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis. An 82-year old man was seriously injured from the fire, which lasted a few minutes.

Regarding the accusations against Israel the IDF stated that no attacks had been carried out in the Gaza Strip during the past few days, but that some incidents had occurred in which IDF soldiers had carried out operations…[..]

Forty Palestinians were killed during May in the Gaza Strip in direct conflict related incidents, compared with 70 in April. The total includes six child fatalities compared to 21 in April. At least one-third of those killed (14) were unarmed civilians. An additional 107 Palestinians were injured in May, among whom 11 were children. Most casualties occurred as a result of Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacks.  Two Israeli civilians were killed and 20 injured, including 16 civilians and four IDF soldiers, by rockets and mortars fired by Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

During May, fuel supplies (including benzene, diesel and industrial gasoline) allowed by Israel into the Gaza Strip increased by 46% compared to April (from 7.8 million litres in April to 11.4 million litres in May). However, this amount constituted less than half of Gaza’s monthly fuel requirements (about 26 million litres).

As a result, MoH (Ministry of Health) hospitals in the Gaza Strip continued to limit their services: for example, the Gaza European hospital continued to suspend half of its elective surgeries, while four out of 44 MoH ambulances were not operating due to the unavailability of benzene.

Gaza crossings
During May, the number of truckloads allowed into Gaza (1,821) declined by about 9% compared to April 2008, and by 85% compared to May 2007 (12,378 truckloads). Of the 1,821 truckloads, 258 contained humanitarian aid goods. The vast majority of imported commodities in May remained limited to food, hygiene and medical supplies. No exports have been allowed since December 2007.

Rafah Crossing has remained closed since 9 June 2007. Erez Crossing was open on 23 days during May, and was again closed on 22 May when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew up a truck filled with explosives at the crossing, which caused significant structural damage for the crossing but no casualties were reported. As a result, the crossing was closed for three days, obstructing the movement of humanitarian aid workers and medical cases.

Access of Palestinian patients through Erez
During May, 1,089 patients from Gaza applied for permits to cross Erez Crossing for treatment in specialised health services in the West Bank (including E. Jerusalem), Israel, Egypt and Jordan. Of the total number, 570 patients (or 52%) were granted permits, 517 of whom had actually crossed.

Am helllichten Tag ist in einem Restaurant in Mexiko-Stadt der führende Drogenfahnder Igor Labastida brutal getötet worden. Wie die Staatsanwaltschaft mitteilte, fuhren am Donnerstag in der Mittagszeit (Ortszeit) zwei Bewaffnete in einem schwarzen Fahrzeug vor, drangen in das Restaurant ein und feuerten wild um sich. Sie erschossen Labastida und einen Leibwächter, zwei weitere Leibwächter wurden verletzt.

Mexikos Präsident Felipe Calderon hat den Drogenbaronen bei seinem Amtsantritt Ende 2006 den Kampf angesagt. Calderon mobilisierte seit Ende 2006 rund 36.000 Soldaten und mehrere tausend Polizisten für den Kampf gegen das organisierte Verbrechen.

Der Krieg verläuft ohne sichtbare Fronten. Betroffen sind vor allem die nördlichen Bundesstaaten an der Grenze Mexikos zu den USA, aber gemordet wird im ganzen Land.

Der Umweltausschuss des Parlaments forderte Ministerpräsident José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero auf, innerhalb eines Jahres einen Gesetzesentwurf vorzulegen, der die artgerechte Haltung von Orang-Utans, Schimpansen, Bonobos und Gorillas in Gefangenschaft vorschreibt. Es soll schmerzhafte medizinische Experimente an Menschenaffen verbieten und Zirkusvorführungen mit Menschenaffen untersagen. Die spanische Regierung soll sich dem Parlamentsbeschluss zufolge auch international dafür einsetzen, Menschenaffen vor Folter, Misshandlungen, Sklaverei oder Ausrottung zu schützen, indem sie das „Projekt Menschenaffen” (Great Ape Project) unterstützt.
