About the Game:
Available: November 18th, 2008
From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters.
Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D’s survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each “movie” is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.
New technology dubbed “the AI Director” is used to generate a unique gameplay experience every time you play. The Director tailors the frequency and ferocity of the zombie attacks to your performance, putting you in the middle of a fast-paced, but not overwhelming, Hollywood horror movie.
Left 4 Dead will be released worldwide on PC and Xbox 360 this November.
- Addictive single player, co-op, and multiplayer action gameplay from the makers of Counter-Strike and Half-Life
- Versus Mode lets you compete four-on-four with friends, playing as a human trying to get rescued, or as a zombie boss monster that will stop at nothing to destroy them.
- An advanced AI director dynamically creates intense and unique experiences every time the game is played

- Matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play
- Designer’s Commentary allows gamers to go “behind the scenes” of the game

Game Reviews - Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway Review by Chris Park
Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway finally gets it right. What right, exactly? The story. Gearbox’s third entry into their innovative (I’m being serious here) tactical WW II shooter tells a gripping, emotionally resonant narrative that really might conjure tears from the more sensitive. There’s a weird trade-off that comes with this, though. For all the improvements in storytelling, the tactical gameplay that was so prominent in the first two games is significantly downplayed. The game attempts to find a compromise between straight shooter and authentic squad-based tactics, but the results are somewhat mixed. Still, Hell’s Highway is by far my favorite out of the three and almost all of that is attributed to its excellent and heart-wrenching tale of Matt Baker’s road through the hellish fires of war.
……
Clocking in at around 10 hours, Hell’s Highway provides tons of drama but brings with it some new gameplay elements that don’t mesh with the series philosophy. Admittedly as a straight shooter, Hell’s Highway is competent - and sometimes great - in this regard. Most of my problems stemmed from how Hell’s Highway was drifting toward something more shooter-centric, because that wasn’t what the series was always about. Seeing Hell’s Highway as just another, well, game, it’s a well-built shooter with some interesting squad mechanics that are useful from time to time. Now that Baker’s story is reaching the tail-end of the war, it’ll be interesting to see how the dramatic shift in setting will affect the next game. Until then, any fan of the series should pick up Hell’s Highway without hesitation, even if the gameplay won’t play out as expected

Game Preview: BlizzCon 2008 - Diablo III
Blizzon continues to generate Diablo III previews, with this one coming from GamingExcellence:
The ways in which monsters die is even impressive. Instead of a standard death animation, monsters can die in several ways. For example, there are “critical deaths” that monsters suffer after scoring a critical hit, which results in said monster exploded in a brilliant blood shower. There are also skill driven deaths. This way shown briefly at WWI, where the witch doctor’s locust swarm would actually eat the flesh off of enemies. This wizard showcased this even further at BlizzCon, as her disintegrate ability does exactly what you think it would - it completely disintegrates enemies most extravagantly. So far, the game feels just like the good old Diablo we all know and love, and will no doubt get even better as the months pass.
